I have to confess a little somethin'...
I can't get enough of vintage pillow slips.
I'm not sure what the problem is here
but when I hit a garage sale or vintage shop, I first make a bee line
to the vintage linen.
If I score a pillowslip pair, you will find me
doing the "happy dance", yes, publically!
This addiction might date back to spending summers
on my grandparents farm in North Dakota.
Their farmhouse was out in the middle of nowhere
surrounded by fields and fields, for miles,
of tall golden wheat.

A favorite memory of mine was running
with my sisters through the linen
hanging on the clothesline
and then when dry, sleeping cozy in it at night.

Embroidered pillowslips were as much a staple
on the farm as canned peaches and pickles.
on the farm as canned peaches and pickles.
This, of course, was an era where embroidery was
as much a part of life
as watching television is to us this day.
This artform, that I never did conquer correctly,
is sadly becoming obsolete. Yes, I know there are
those that still participate, but I believe they are fewer
and far between than was once the norm.
What has always facinated me, and here's the part
where I take a left turn,
is that a true embroidery artist's work
where I take a left turn,
is that a true embroidery artist's work
is just as neat and beautiful
on the outside as it is on the inside.
My attempts to apply this art has only resulted in a
the inside |
skewed version of what the art was to look like
on the outside, and a threaded disaster,on the inside,
much like the look of all
the wires behind our entertainment center!

Slips with handmade trim never cease to baffle me.
To handmake a lace trim so precise and beautiful
is truly an artform to be admired.
Now, because I am not a hoarder,
I have a collection of
favorite slips I keep for myself and guests,
and I sell many of them on my website
http://www.therobinandsparrow.etsy.com/
for those that want but cannot find!
Happy Monday deary people, thank you for visiting!

I have the SAME problem!! I have many many sets! I need to use them, but........can you say hoarder?
I'm the same way! The first thing I do at a thrift shop is hit the dishes, then the linens. I have so many pretty white vintage pillow slips and even some designer shams found for a couple bucks here and there. I love them! Your blog is wonderful! Stopping by via White Wed, hope you'll hop over to my blog to enter my giveaway, xxx tami
I just bought my first vintage pillow slipcovers off Etsy and I love them! They're so beautifully made. I just added your Etsy shop to my favorites and can't wait to look around at your lovely items!
You have an awesome collection of lovely linens! My favorite is the sweet dreams ones. And I always always look on the inside too, to see the true handiwork!!
Happy White Wednesday!

They are all beautiful. I have a small collection too. I still embroider and I've taught myself to crochet using the fine thread. I still have a few my grandmother made, embroidered with crochet edgings. I don't think you can ever have too many!!! visiting from White Wednesday...

Hi Clare, nice to see you on white wednesday again, and I agree with you, these vintage pillow slips are a true work of art, I can sew, however not a good at embroidery, so I admire this work very much, Celeste, thevictoriantailor.blogspot.com
